Spit Play
Playing or Writing with strings of spit is a common sensory behaviour for our sensory kids. It’s fine, not scary, just a bit disgusting at times when it’s drawn all over your walls, windows and tables!
I believe that rather than stopping or discouraging a sensory need, we should try and replace the sensation with something more appropriate.
This method is tried and tested and I hope you have equal success with it!
Basically, if you mix washing up liquid with a drop of water it has the consistency of spit. I leave a bowl out on the table or by the window. They then just happily transfer to using this after modelling to them.
I would much rather washing liquid drawing over my window than spit!
I hope you find this helps.
